Susan Millstein, PhD
Director for Research
Professor of Pediatrics

Dr. Millstein is Professor in Residence in the Department of Pediatrics at UCSF and Associate Director, Research and Academic Affairs in the Division of Adolescent Medicine. She is also an affiliated faculty member of the Institute for Health Policy Studies at UCSF and the Stanford University Center on Adolescence. Dr. Millsteins research has focused on health-related decision making, risk perception and judgment, and health promotion and prevention. She has been the recipient of numerous research grants and awards and has published widely on adolescent health issues ranging from adolescents health behaviors to the delivery of adolescent health services. Dr. Millstein serves as a frequent policy advisor to foundations and federal agencies and is active in a variety of national activities related to adolescent health promotion and prevention. Recent projects have included NIH-funded studies on:

  1. the development of risk judgment in older children, adolescents and early adults, and

  2. treatment-related decision making in infertile couples, and

  3. the effects of emotional states on risk judgment and decision making.
