![]() Faculty Children embody hope, but they do not always radiate health. True, scourges of previous centuries, such as diphtheria, measles, polio and pertussis have been tamed. Yet the threats from birth defects, cancer and other diseases remain. Standing between children and these threats to their health and happiness is a community of UCSF pediatricians. Some test new therapies, others direct patient care. Still others work their artistry in the examination room or the research laboratory. No matter their special skill, today’s UCSF pediatricians are part of a continuum of achievement that, beginning in 1913, has made the UCSF Department of Pediatrics both respected and world renowned. Keenly aware of its reputation, earned by treatment advances that have literally saved the lives of thousands, the department expects that the care and teaching it offers will be the standard to which others aspire. |
