- The American Lung Association
The American Lung Association funds a broad program of grants and awards designed to further both basic and applied research in lung function and lung disease. This funding has led to such major breakthroughs as the use of lifesaving surfactant therapy for thousands of premature infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS).
- The American Medical Association
The AMA Foundation established the Seed Grant Research Program to encourage medical students, physician residents and fellows to enter the research field. The program provides $2,500 grants to help them conduct small basic science, applied, or clinical research projects.
- Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Grants and Awards
Each year at its annual meeting, the Association of American Medical Colleges presents its major awards honoring individuals and programs making significant contributions to our community in the fields of medical education, research, and community service.

Is an independent private foundation dedicated to advancing the medical sciences by supporting research and other scientific and educational activities.
- Charles E. Culpeper Scholarship in Medical Science
The Charles E. Culpeper Scholarships in Medical Science, established in 1988, nurture the career development of exceptionally promising physician scientists as they transition to independent researchers at the best academic medical centers.
- Doris Duke Charitable Foundation - Medical Research Program
The goal of the Medical Research Program is to strengthen and support clinical research to help advance the translation of basic biomedical discoveries into new treatments, preventions and cures for human diseases.
- The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation
The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation seeks to prevent pediatric HIV infection and to eradicate pediatric AIDS through research, advocacy, and prevention and treatment programs.
- Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI)
The largest privately funded education initiative of its kind in the United States, HHMI's grants program is enhancing science education for students at all levels, from the earliest grades through advanced training.
- The Genentech Foundation
Genentech regularly provides grants for a variety of activities other than healthcare professional medical education, including contributions to and sponsorships for philanthropic activities, clinical research and development support, health science education (elementary schools through the graduate level), fellowships and support for patient advocacy programs.
- The Lasker Foundation
The centerpiece activity of the Foundation is an annual awards program, which recognizes stunning achievements in basic and clinical research, as well as significant public service in behalf of medical science. Partnership for Cures is a public charity whose mission is to create partnerships between philanthropists and researchers to drive better treatments and cures to patients with disease.
- Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation seeks to improve the health and health care of all Americans. We support training, education, research (excluding biomedical research), and projects that demonstrate the effective delivery of health care services. We concentrate on health care systems and the conditions that promote better health.
- William Keck Foundation: Science & Engineering Research and Medical Research
Supporting pioneering discoveries in medicine, science and engineering has been our mandate from the beginning.
