Scholarship Oversight Committee
Year 2 IDP Submission
An updated IDP packet including the CV and ABP scholarly activity/work product abstract are required in the fall for all year 2 fellowship. At this time, year 2 fellows should be actively engaged in their research projects.

Year 2 IDP packets will be reviewed by each fellow’s SOC. During year 2, all fellows are expected to have consistent professional development/research meetings with their mentors. In year 2, the “face-to-face” meeting will consist of the fellow’s SOC committee members meeting with the fellow at his/her respective poster during Research Day.

If a year 2 fellow receives a “pending until clarification” with the summary review prepared by the fellow’s SOC after reviewing the IDP packet, the fellow and program director will then be required to address the SOC ‘s queries in the manner and timeline defined by the SOC. Clarifications are usually requested when there is insufficient information in the packet to determine if the fellow is “on-track” for their level for their research/creative activity scholarly project. Once an adequate response is received by the SOC office, the fellow’s packet is approved for year 2 progress.

If a fellow receives a ‘deferred approval’, then a more formal reassessment determined by the SOC will take place as directed by the SOC. The fellow and program director and mentor(s) must meet, review the evaluation and SOC recommendations and formally
submit a new IDP plan to the SOC for re-assessment approval. If the fellow fails to receive an approval rating on re-assessment, the fellow, mentors and the SOC will meet to discuss the progress. If necessary, the Chair of Pediatrics will interview the fellow and program director.

In addition, the fellow, program director and/or mentor(s) may initiate a confidential face-to-face meeting as part of the review process by contacting the Chair of the SOC at any time.

Poster Presentation of Work Product

The SOC will require the fellow to present their work product related to his/her scholarly activity. Year 2 poster presentations will be given at the annual Department of Pediatrics Research Day.

Poster specifications
  • Title of project
  • Author
  • Research mentor(s)
  • Division/Institution

Poster should include the following broad sections as it relates to your specific research
  1. Background/Introduction
  2. Purpose/Objective(s)
  3. Hypotheses
  4. Materials/Research Methods
  5. Results
  6. Limitations
  7. Conclusions/Discussion
  8. Study Implications

Presenting your poster

Authors must be present for questions by their SOC. It is encouraged that each presenter prepares a 2-4 minute overview of their research and poster when asked about the project. The presenter should also be prepared to answer questions about his/her research.

Evaluation of your poster

The year 2 fellow’s “face-to-face” meeting equivalent.
After discussing the poster with the fellow at Research Day, each SOC member will fill out a formal evaluation form. Copies of these completed poster evaluations will then be forwarded to the fellow’s program director. It is then expected that each program director will discuss the comments in context with the fellow and research mentors during a mentor/research/scholarly activity meeting.
