 Division of Pediatric Critical Care
The Division of Pediatric Critical Care at UCSF strives to provide high quality clinical care for critically ill infants and children in a multi-disciplinary setting with state-of-the art equipment. The Division is committed to providing an excellent educational environment and the fellowship program has a long history of graduating exceptionally well-trained pediatric intensivists, many of whom have successfully pursued an academic career. In addition, our faculty is involved in a variety of research endeavors aimed at advancing knowledge of diseases and treatment options pertinent to pediatric critical care. The ongoing financial support from extramural research funding is testimony to the excellence of our faculty.
Clinical Services
Critically ill children with life-threatening medical and surgical conditions are cared for in the 15-bed Pediatric Intensive Care
Unit. The Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit has a separate 8-beds for pediatric patients with heart disease. Both units are staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by Pediatric Critical Care specialists.

Research
Faculty in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care is actively involved in a variety of basic, translational and clinical research efforts that ultimately aim to improve our understanding of pediatric diseases and our ability to care for critically ill children.

Training
Pediatric Critical Care training at UCSF is offered as a joint Fellowship Program with Children’s Hospital and Research Center of Oakland. The 3-year ACGME-accredited program provides a unique academic, clinical, and research experience. For selected fellows with an interest in pursuing a physician-scientist career, a 4-year program with expanded research time is offered.
