Loraine Newman Visiting Professorship Funded by the Loraine Newman Foundation, this professorship sponsors in-depth, educationally focused visits by prominent clinician-scientists in the field of pediatric cardiology. The goal of the program is to encourage mentorship and the academic development of pediatric cardiology fellows and faculty who are early in their academic careers. The visiting professorship occurs once a year. Activities include presenting didactic rounds, participating in clinical patient rounds, and attending existing clinical and teaching cardiology conferences. The visiting professor will also meet informally with fellows and junior faculty, both in groups and individually. Invited for Spring 2008 Acknowledged in a variety of lists which include “Marquis Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare”, 2006; “Best Doctors in America”, 2003; and “Guide to America’s Top Physicians”, 2001; our next visitor, Thomas Kulik, MD has been an active researcher in the pathophysiology of congenital heart diseases and its forms of treatment.
Visiting Professor Since 2007 On May 24, 2007: Our first visitor was Jane Newburger, MD., M.P.H., a noted researcher whose goal is to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and outcome of children with Kawasaki disease and the neurological deficits that may occur after surgery for congenital heart disease.
