Application Procedures Positions in the Pediatric Cardiology training program are filled by a specialty match run by the National Resident Matching Program. The relevant dates can be obtained from the NRMP website, http://www.nrmp.org/fellow/schedule.html.
Applications are processed and interviews are done 1.5 years in advance of starting the fellowship program (see detailed deadline dates on application form). Our program requires that applicants have completed three years of an accredited general pediatric training program. However, we will consider applicants who have completed two years of a general pediatric training if this is approved by the American Board of Pediatrics. If the applicant is not trained in North America he/she is required to pass the U.S. Medical Licensure Examination (USMLE) before their application can be considered. In addition, all fellows must be eligible to have a California Medical License at the time of starting fellowship, please see the application for for more details. We now accept the Uniform Application of the Society of Pediatric Cardiology Program Directors. Application forms and instructions for the 2009 Fellowship are available here: Salaries are in the range of most other fellowship programs in Pediatric Cardiology, and are matched as closely as possible to those of the equivalent postgraduate residency level in Pediatrics. Fellows are offered a choice of two types of health (Unicare and Health Net). Health Net premiums are currently covered by the division. Coverage for spouse and dependent children is provided if the spouse is not employed and has no other insurance coverage. The insurance plans also cover both dental and vision care, as well as life and accidental death & dismemberment. Additionally, long-term disability insurance for fellows only is available at no cost. A total of 15 days of vacation is provided each year. Unused balances may not be carried forward into the next academic year. A fixed amount of funding is provided each year to support travel to national meetings. The University's Housing Office, which is located on campus in the Millberry Union, room 102, has current listing of apartments and houses for rent. The office hours are 8:00-4:30, 415-476-2231.
