Diversity Across UCSF

Diversity is Essential to the UCSF Mission

One of UCSF’s major objectives for the future is to strengthen its diversity efforts across campu and integrate diversity into campus culture. The Chancellor's office recognizes:

“…the need to make UCSF a truly inclusive community, representative of the extraordinary diversity among the citizens of San Francisco and California.

Diversity — a defining feature of California’s past, present and future — refers to the variety of personal experiences, values and worldviews that arise from differences of race, ethnicity, culture, religion, mental or physical abilities, heritage, gender, age, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, geographic region, and other characteristics.”

UCSF values and promotes diversity because it enhances the education, workplace, and services to the public provided by this campus.  The Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Diversity is a standing committee to advise and make specific recommendations to the Chancellor and Cabinet for campus-wide diversity issues.

GME

The Office of Graduate Medical Education has committed itself to encouraging all programs within the School of Medicine to train physicians from all backgrounds and cultures.  There are several opportunities to join in their mission to create a diverse community among residents and fellows from all training programs.

The Department of Pediatrics is engaged in GME’s efforts through involvement with recruitment, education, social events, and other activities.
