Message from Program Director Welcome to our web site and thank you for your interest in the UCSF Pediatric Residency Training Program, an integral component of one of the world’s great medical schools located in one of the world’s great cities. It is a tremendous privilege to return to UCSF to serve as Program Director. In many ways this is a homecoming for me, since I was a resident at UCSF nearly 20 years ago. It is great to be back! UCSF has a long record of training outstanding pediatricians who go on to have distinguished careers. Our graduates conduct basic, clinical and translational research that improves the health of children in our country and around the world. They hold leadership positions in academic medicine, large health care organizations, medical societies and public health departments where they help shape the future of medicine in this country and work to reduce health disparities. They teach, develop new educational curricula, and edit major pediatric textbooks helping to set the national agenda for pediatric education. And most importantly, they are outstanding clinicians who care for children in settings ranging from quaternary care critical care units to outpatient clinics in underserved communities. I chose to come to UCSF because of the opportunity to build on an already outstanding training program. Our goal is to be a training program that allows you to pursue your passion in medicine while developing outstanding clinical and leadership skills. We have tremendous resources to help you achieve that, including the most important resource, a richly diverse group of talented and creative residents, faculty, nurses, and many others. Enjoy the virtual tour of our training program and I look forward to the possibility of meeting you in the future. Daniel C. West, MD |
