 About the
Program
The
Residency Training Program of the Department of Pediatrics at the University
of California, San Francisco (UCSF) prepares physicians to care for infants,
children, and adolescents in ambulatory, inpatient and community settings.
We are committed to preparing physicians who will improve the health of
children and provide leadership in clinical care, research, medical education
and health policy. In order to serve best the health care needs of our
patient population and to enrich the learning environment of our program,
the Residency Training Program seeks to enroll a diverse group of trainees
with a broad range of backgrounds, interests, skills, and career goals.
We undertake the training of pediatricians who will be:
- knowledgeable physicians, skilled in the care of infants, children,
and adolescents, and prepared to advocate effectively for children's
health;
- qualified to practice general pediatrics or to pursue further subspecialty
training and research, and committed to life-long learning of pediatrics;
- sensitive to behavioral, social, ethical, and organizational aspects
of health care;
- respectful of the rights and dignity of patients and their families,
and impeccable in their personal conduct and professional integrity.
We measure our success by the quality of the pediatricians we train.
After a very successful 16 year tenure at UCSF as Program Director and
with his interest in and program development in International Health,
Dr. Bob Kamei accepted the very prestigious position of Vice
Dean for Medical Education at a new medical school in Singapore. This
is a joint venture between the National University of Singapore and Duke
University and will open shortly. We are conducting a national search
for an outstanding leader in medical education to direct our program.
As of December, 2007 we have identified several exceptional candidates and
we are well into the recruitment process. We are very excited about our
future that this additional new leadership promises.
